Bitlis Ahlat Museum

The museum is located next to the historical Seljuk Graveyard which was founded upon an area that reaches 200 square meters. Ahlat Museum was opened for display in 1970.

In the museum, there are multicolor pots and pans that are peculiar to the Eastern Anatolian Region of 2000 BC, ceramics that date back to the end of Middle Bronze Age and Iron Age and collections belonging to Urartians.

Besides, the creations that came to the surface via the excavations made in Çifte Hamam, Zaviye and Ulu Mosque and ceramics pertaning to Seljuk Period are exhibited.

The glazed ceramics made by techniques of sgraffito and lusterware date back to XIII and they pertain to Seljuk Period; pots that are made in animal shapes without glazing are among the museum collections.

In the museum, the collections of the Urartians that consist of ornamental goods with double-head dragons are arranged as a seperate section. Various ceramics and kerosene lamps that belong to Roman and Byzantine Periods form a seperate section too. Apart from that, the epitaphs of the Seljuks which are different from each other, are placed in the garden of the museum.

In the museum, coins pertaning to various periods, local ethnographic creations also exist.

The museum is open every day from 07.30-12.00 to 13.00-16.30 except Mondays.
