Zili
It is a kind of flat weaving rugs which is made by basing on three or more yarn systems.
Today, it is referred to with such names as 'zili' in Manisa, Izmir, Çannakkale, 'zili-sili', 'çalma or çelme' in Konya, Niğde, Aksaray and Kayseri, 'zili, zulu, zilani' in Tokat, Amasya, Yozgat and Sivas.
Zili looks like cicim in the way of appearance. But, it is different from it in the way of technique. Like cicim woven by two people, it is weaved by skipping the colourful yarns that composes the pattern, that are outside of the weft, which was put between the warps, as 2-1, 3-1 or 5-1 between the warps (for example, weft yarn is hold three, three of them are released). Colourful yarns, which compose the pattern, are carried forward between the warps as horizontally.
In the way of technique, they have five different kinds like ‘flat zili, crosswise zili, rare zili, checker zili, bordered zili (verneh)’. Each one of these is weaved in various patterns in various places of Anatolia.
