TÜLÜ

Tülü is the pilose (napped) rug woven on handlooms of wool and angora wool.

Tülü works produced as ground cloths, bed lining and drapes, etc. are simple weavings produced with sheep and camel wool and goat hair with higher piles and sparser knots than those of normal rugs

Tülü is divided into two groups known colloquially as knotted and knotless (‘çeki tülü’) rugs.  

Knotless weavings do not have knots on warps and the pile is woven by pulling from between weft yarns. The appearance of the piles made up of woollen cuts and thick textures and left out naturally distinguishes these works from the blankets woven in Siirt.    

Knotless tülü is woven Turkish knots at intervals by applying a tuft of fleece wool, spun or not spun, on warps. This type of weavings is either mono- or multi-coloured with the natural colours of wool.
