The building of the museum was built in 19th century in neoclassical style. The aim of its display is to reflect the social life of İzmir and its region in 19th century.
Thus, many of our handcrafts, which face up to the danger of extinction, such as whitesmith, pottery, xylograph, felt, and rug weaving are introduced through exhibition.
Display of the 1st Floor:
1st section: guest room of 19th century, handicrafts, bath suits,
2nd section: the oven of krisopras and its examples, the first Turkish pharmacy of İzmir city (İttihat Pharmacy), felt and whitesmith are exhibited. The famous sorbet market of İzmir (Demirhindi) is also exhibited for its visitors.
3rd section: Menemen’s potter’s wheel and its products, camels and camel fightings, folk dances, swashbuckler and his clothes are introduced.
In the motrise display located in the corridor of the inner sides of the salons, purses, goods with pearl inlay, glass and handicrafts are exhibited.
Display of the 2nd Floor:
1st section: bride room of 19th century, display of the bridal gowns, sitting rooms, circumcise room and kitchen tools,
2nd section: bridal hair styles of Aegean Region, woman ornaments, coins of Ottoman Empire, handwritten books and writing equipments are exhibited. |
