Alacahöyük and Boğazköy Museums of Çorum

Alacahöyük Museum

 

Alacahöyük Museum which serves being a part of Çorum Museum, is located in Alaca District, Alacahöyük Village and has 45 kilometres to Çorum.

The very first local museum at Alacahöyük was opened for display in 1940, and in 1982 it was moved to its new building.

In the salons which were named after the chairmen (Hamit Zübeyr Koşay and Remzi Oğuz Arık) of the excavations, the works of art which were obtained from excavations at Alacahöyük and Pazarlı are exhibited.

In the entry salon, the first excavations materials, handmade ceramics pertaining to Chalcolithic Age and the photos displaying the moment of foundling of the graves of 13 kings and creations made of terracotta are exhibited.

In the second salon, creations made of terracotta from Old Bronze, Hittite and Phrygian periods, bronze needles, ornamental goods made of bones, tablets, figurines of animals and tablets with cuneiform writing are exhibited. Among the creations from Pazarlı, wall tablets embossed with terracotta, pots whose tops are dyed, and riton with the shape of partridge exist.

In the salon which houses ethnographic creations, local rugs and carpets, wooden farm implements, weaving desks; drillers, weapons and firearms belonging to Ottoman Period are exhibited.

Boğazköy Museum

 

Boğazköy Museum which serves as appertaining to the Management of Çorum Museum, is located at the center of Boğazkale District which is 82 kms away from southwest of Çorum. The museum, which was opened in 1966, functions as a local museum as it preserves and exhibits the creations that were obtained from excavations at Boğazköy (Hattusa) and the works of art that came from surroundings. In the museum, which predominantly exhibits the creations from Hittite Era, there are also works of art from Old Bronze, Hittite, Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine Periods.

In the entrance hall of the museum, there are a topographical map showing Hattusa and a chronological panel. In the same place, mold relief of God on the King’s Gate is exhibited.

 

In the first salon, there are display windows in which the creations made of terracotta pertaining to Old Bronze and Assyrian Trade Colonies Period are exhibited and the relief of Goddess Ishtar that was brought from Yazılıkaya exist.

In the second salon, gigantic pots with beaks from Assyrian Trade Colonies Era and Old Hittite Period and the photos showing their circumstances of foundlings are chronologically exhibited.

Creations made of terracotta and stone creations from Old Hittite and Empire Age; tablets with cuneiform writing, cylinders and signets, statue of a dancing Goddess made of ivory, group of 3 Gods, dyad pots made of ceramics, fibulas, creations made of terracotta and glass belonging to Roman Age, and bronze materials pertaining to Byzantine Period are on display.
