Afyon Museum had served as a karma museum from 1933 to 1970 in the Madrasah of Gedik Ahmet Pasha (The Stone Madrasah), after that, in 1971 it was moved to its new building in which the Management of Museum and Archeology Museum were.
In the museum which has an outstanding collection,
13.276 pieces of archeological items 4484 pieces of ethnographic items 26.564 Coins 26 pieces of documents of record 33 pieces of handwritten books
and in total there are 44.383 items.
Apart from items left from Byzantine Age of 3 BC, there are lots of samples belonging to Old Bronze, Hittite, Phrygia, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Ages. Kusura pots, the testis of Bavurdu, the Çıkrık Idol, Hittite God of Statue anf Father, the wooden pieces belonging to Tatar Phrygian Tumulus, Çavdarlı Vow Statues of Roman Age, the architectural items pertaning to Middle Byzantine Art, and local coins are chronologically on display.
The tombstones belonging to Phrygian door style of Roman and Byzantine Periods, which reflect the characteristic aspects of the region, monument writings, the price lists of Bazaar, columns, contents headings and underlays, architectural pieces, sarcophaguses made of marble and terracotta, cubes, half processed antique pieces that come from İsçehisar marble quarry and large sized statue of Herakles are exhibited in open and half open areas.
As a result of the plenitude of items and variety of the samples, Archeology Museum is among the important museums of the world.
