Yıldız City Museum which exhibits the items that point out the social life of the Ottoman Period, was built in 1939 in the Library of Municipality, Beyazıt. In 1945, it was moved to külliye of Gazanfer Ağa, and under the name of The Municipality Museum, it was exhibited for a while.
Since 1988 when it came to the survice as a city museum, the museum which has been presented to the interest of its visitors in the Salon of Fine Arts in Yıldız Palace, has housed calligraphy plates, fabrics, various works of art made of glass, kitchen gadgets, sets of coffee, seals, cover casts, scale, pair of scales and weights, ceramic creations and all the other works of art that have museum pieces.
Apart from many works of painters, there are also the collections which have the signs of eminent names of calligraphy.
In the selection of the museum that has the quality of historical place, there are many ethnographical and historical works of art belonging generally to 18 and 19 centuries and city culture.
Among the other important items that are exhibited, there are signets of Mehmed The Conqueror, Sultan Osman II, Sultan Mahmud II, Tophane rolls, elements of religious order, different instruments pertaining to various craft groups of İstanbul, banners, bowls and kettles of sherbet, porcelains of 18 and 19 centuries and the porcelains upon which the pictures that have the sign of Eser-i İstanbul draws attention.
