The museum was opened in Zinciriye Madrasah that was made in Karamanoğulları Beylic Period, in Aksaray,1969. Zinciriye Madrasah was built with hewn stones and bricks. It is a structure with portico that consists of open-top courtyard, and 4 eyvans.The entrance is through the crest-door in the east.
There are 8 rooms which are covered with domes and vaults, in it. Until the beginning of 20th century, it had been functioned as a madrasah, and from 1940 onwards it was used as a prison for a while. Since 1969, it has been posited as a museum.
In the museum there are totally 6134 works of art of the whole Anatolian civilizations dating back to Neolithic Age (7000 BC) and reaching our day.
The Section of Archeological Creations In this section, there are totally 2022 pieces of creations consisting of 390 samples, which date back to Neolithic Age Without Pottery, extracted from the archeological excavations at Aşıklı Höyük and Musular Mound, 24 creations from Güvercinkayası Settling which brighten the Chalcolithic Period of the Central Anatolia Region; 814 foundlings from Acemhöyük, creations, which belong to Seljuk Period, found via the excavations at Darphane; and many other works of art pertaning to the other periods.
The Section of Ethnographic Creations It involves 584 pieces of creations that consist of objects peculiar to traditional Turkish clothing and life styles, swords and guns. All of these are collected from Aksaray and its neighbourhood.
The Section of Coins There are 3528 coins belonging to Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Periods and those are made of gold, silver and bronze.
