Aydın Museum was founded in 1959. It has nearly 40.000 works of art.
The building of the museum is in a wide garden. In the garden, the stone creations left from antique cities which were in boundaries of Aydın are exhibited.
Today, especially with its section of ethnography which has local ethnographic works of art, also with its section of archeology embracing the creations made of terracotta which have Trallesis origin, and finally along with its treasures of coins placed in the departmant of responsibility of the museum, it properly deserves being proud of. Above all, Kızıldere Treasure of silver coins collection of Roman Emperors which was made in Roman Age, consists of 29 emperors and 9 empresses who officiated between 40 AD and 270 AD and therefore, it is a treasure which every museum yearns to have.
In its salons, there are 3 sections of exposure. The Section of Archeology In the section of archeology, the works of art are chronologically exhibited. Besides the works of art of Prehistory, the most beautiful examples of Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantinen, Seljuk and Ottoman eras can also be seen.
The Section of Coins The golden, silver, copper and bronze coins pertaining to Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantinen, Seljuk and Ottoman eras are on exhibition.
The Salon of Ethnography The salon of ethnography is the section in which the rich works of folk art of the region are displayed. Rugs, carpets, the samples of weaving such as jijim and sumac, the costumes of efes, the women clothes embroidered with gilded silver threads, handwrittens edged with oya, silver jewelleries, the suites of baths (hamam), the Korans and books handwritten, copper kitchen gadgets, wooden works of art and guns are exhibited.
